Fight Fall Allergies With Chiropractic
When we think of allergy season, we usually think of congestion, watery eyes and itchy throats brought on by springtime’s green grass and newly blooming flowers. But fall brings its fair share of seasonal allergies, too. Chiropractic works to improve the function of the musculoskeletal system to help naturally relieve you of any allergy-related discomfort.
In the fall, most allergies are stimulated by a flowering plant known as ragweed. Ragweed blooms from August to October. During these months, you may notice some sinus irritation because of it. Ragweed produces billions of pollen grains that can travel long distances. When breathed in, these grains trigger the function of the immune system. When these pollen grains enter the body, the immune system attacks, believing the grains to be harmful. When the immune system attacks, histamines are released into the lungs, eyes, nose, and throat to expel the pollen grains. Typically, this results in uncomfortable buildup with symptoms like a runny nose, sneezing, dry throat, watery eyes and coughing.
Your respiratory system and immune system rely on proper communication between the brain and spinal cord to coordinate and control their functions. If there is an interruption in that communication (i.e. a misalignment), the immune system can become compromised. Without the use of medication, a chiropractic adjustment will restore proper communication throughout your nervous system and keep your immune system in check, too. Realigning the spinal cord corrects nerve restrictions and helps open and drain your histamine-filled sinuses.
